Systems Support: SOARS for Applied Psychology (Lab and Clinic Use)

What is it?

Steinhardt’s Observation and Recording Service (SOARS) is a secure cloud based observation and recording service used for training, courses, and clinical sessions.  This is the new digital video service that will be used in Applied Psychology.  This system replaces the DVD recording experience which you may have used in the past. It’s based on a platform called Valt.

SOARS & Applied Psychology

SOARS supports digital capture and storage of counseling sessions. Review this case study from the USC Dornsife to learn more:

USC Final from Intelligent Video Solutions on Vimeo.

There will be 10 observation and recording spaces located in Kimball Hall, 5th floor. Spaces 501A-J which will be shared between the clinic and the counseling lab courses, with the lab courses using the 501A-E. Please note not all of the room cameras have access to be adjusted (501-D1, 501-B, 501-A) when viewing the observation.

How to access SOARS in the clinic?

To start, stop, and review recordings use the url, SOARS username and password below from from an on-campus computer or a computer connected via NYU wifi or NYU VPN.

Note: If you do not have an account associated with AP and would like one, please speak with your department’s SOARS administrator.

How does SOARS work?

To learn how to start, stop, and review recordings, visit this website: http://ipivs.com/wiki/Valt_User_Training

To begin a recording, remember to click on the camera icon next to the desired room's title. For more information please see this page - http://ipivs.com/wiki/Recording. When a room is being recorded, anyone else other than the individual who began the recording cannot view it within SOARS.

Since SOARS is a secure cloud based observation and recording service, it’s always up and running. However, upon locating a room and seeing ‘Camera is not available…” please send an email to steinhardt.it@nyu.edu. The below image shows a camera not working, and a room with the lights turned off with a working camera.
